Governing Board Recognizes Rotary Youth Leadership Awards!

Rotary International sponsors RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), which emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and provides weekend trainings for selected middle and high school students and potential leaders. Mr.Anastos welcomed the four middle school students to honor and thank them for their participation in RYLA's Leadership Training: Daishia Hall (Palm Middle School) and Summer Nelson, Kayla Shaw, and Frederick Walker (Lemon Grove Middle School). He read a note from Marge Cole, Rotary International Governor for our region, who said that these outstanding students did a terrific job and participated in a meaningful experience. The students shared about their experiences including interacting with new people and participating in debate and ethics classes. Mr. Anastos presented them with Shining Star certificates.

Governing Board Recognizes Mrs. Marge Cook!

The Governing Board recognized Mrs. Marge Cook who has been a part of the District as both a teacher’s aide and volunteer over the past 16 years, most recently volunteering for the last six years to help reorganize the libraries at Mount Vernon School and San Altos School. In addition, she has purchased and donated many books. Although she is no longer able to volunteer on a regular basis, she will continue to make bookmarks for students. Dr. Potter spoke about Mrs. Cook’s dedicated, countless hours working at the Mount Vernon library. Media specialist Chris Granstedt spoke about working with Mrs. Cook at Mount Vernon School and San Altos School. Teacher Eileen Partridge spoke about Mrs. Cook’s work as a teacher’s aide, stating that they made a great team from the beginning, working tirelessly and selflessly; Mrs. Partridge thanked her for her years of service to the children of Lemon Grove. Principal Larry Buchanan met Mrs. Cook at the beginning of last school year. He described her as a very gracious and kind person. Mr. Anastos presented Mrs. Cook with a Shining Star certificate. She introduced her family and stated that she is now serving meals at the Senior Center.
